Janelle E. Shinhoster, Psy.D.

 

Dr. Janelle E. Shinhoster is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist with more than 15 years of experience conducting psychological and forensic evaluations within the criminal justice system. Throughout her career, she has worked extensively with juvenile and adult populations, providing comprehensive psychological assessments, forensic evaluations, crisis intervention, and consultation for courts, attorneys, probation departments, and other legal professionals.
 

Dr. Shinhoster currently conducts Fitness to Stand Trial evaluations for both juvenile and adult defendants and probationers within the Illinois court system. She has extensive experience evaluating complex psychological, behavioral, and legal issues while providing objective, evidence-based opinions that assist courts and legal professionals in informed decision-making.
 

Her professional background includes service in circuit courts, correctional institutions, juvenile justice settings, and private practice, where she has conducted psychological evaluations, consulted with multidisciplinary teams, supervised doctoral-level trainees, and provided trauma-informed care to individuals with complex mental health needs. Her experience spans criminal, civil, and correctional settings, allowing her to approach every evaluation with professionalism, clinical precision, and an understanding of the intersection between psychology and the legal system.
 

Dr. Shinhoster is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Illinois and a Certified Trauma-Informed Response Trainer through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). She remains committed to providing ethical, objective, and scientifically supported psychological services that promote fairness, informed legal decision-making, and improved behavioral health outcomes.
